Arrival and Dismissal can create traffic congestion. Please plan to drop your student off and leave to allow other families to safely drop off their students as well. Parking and waiting to watch your child in the morning is discouraged. We would welcome parent volunteers to assist with traffic control. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Burkhalter at 308-635-6259.
Arrival Time and Location
Students are welcome to enter the playground through the playground gates on 8th Avenue or 9th Avenue at 7:45am. Gates will not be unlocked until 7:45 am. Teachers are on duty at that time to provide proper supervision. Students will walk the track until 8:00 am when they will enter the building to begin the school day. All students need to enter through the playground. The main doors on 9th Avenue are not to be used for daily arrival. After the gates are closed, students should enter through the main entrance.
Breakfast/Morning Meeting Schedule
We begin each day with a morning meeting in the gym at Roosevelt. Breakfast will be served in the classroom every morning to students at Roosevelt after the morning meeting.
Lunch
All students at Roosevelt are offered a free breakfast and a free lunch. A student is also able to pack a cold lunch if they prefer. Lunches begin at 11:10 and conclude at 12:20. Some grade levels will eat lunch first and then proceed to recess while other grade levels will have recess first and then proceed to lunch. You can see the 2022-23 lunch schedule below:

Recesses
We will go outside most days for recess, as long as the windchill is above 0 degrees. Please plan accordingly when helping your student select clothing for the day. All students have at least one recess a day.
Dismissal Procedure: Walkers/Car Pick Up
There are two exits available to students leaving the building at the end of the school day. The first exit is located through the south doors (East Overland), where students will be escorted across the street by a crossing guard. A second exit is available through the northwest doors on the playground and to a gate located on 8th Avenue. Adults will meet students on 8th Avenue and this is the recommended location for those picking up in a vehicle to meet their students. All students are escorted out of the building by a teacher/adult. Students will not exit the building through the front doors.
Preschool buses pickup students on 9th Avenue and these buses must be able to access the curb. Please refrain from parking in designated areas for these buses to maintain a safe dismissal and keep traffic flowing smoothly. We ask that all families are courteous of the parking signs posted around the building perimeter.
It is important that each family communicates with their student and with the teacher how the student should be dismissed each day (Playground Side, Stoplight Side, or After School Program). This is best if it is consistent for students and the dismissal plan doesn’t routinely change. If there will be a change in dismissal plans, please call the school office no later than 2:30 PM to report those changes.
After School Program/Clubs /Tutoring
Extended Learning Opportunities will be provided for students after school, through our Eagle’s Nest ASP, clubs, and re-teaching/tutoring opportunities. If your child would like to participate in the Eagle’s Nest Program, you must submit an application. For more information regarding the after school program, please contact Shelly Hoagland at 308-225-3851.

The District, Roosevelt Main Office, and your student’s teacher will communicate primarily through REMIND. REMIND is an app that will send you an email or text messages containing important information and documents, such as newsletters, directly to your phone. Additionally, it allows you to contact your child’s teacher directly to ask questions or get support. Please make sure your phone number and email address is up to date in our office to assist with the app working properly.
We will send out a monthly newsletter through the Remind APP using a software called S’More. This app will allow families to translate the entire document into their preferred language. Grade level newsletters will also be attached to the monthly office newsletter.
Paper notes, forms, other important information, and finished student work will be sent home in our red Roosevelt folders. Please review the contents of the folder with your child and return the folder the next day. Keep important papers at home for future reference. Please check your child’s backpack and red folder on a regular basis to stay informed.
The Roosevelt PTO meets once a month and primarily works to provide extra support and plan events for students and staff, such as hosting a Winter Store in December or providing meals to staff during conferences. We invite you to join us for PTO meetings discussing events that interest you!
Contact the main office or your student’s teacher if you are interested in volunteering at the school. We would love to help find a way that fits for you and for Roosevelt for the benefit of our students and staff.
One of the best ways to partner with the school is to attend special events that pertain to your student, such as grade level meetings, music concerts, and family nights. We would love to see you at all the events we have planned to partner with you.
You can contact the Roosevelt Main Office at 308-635-6259.
School hours
Roosevelt School hours are from 8:05 am.-3:30 pm. Students may enter the playground at 7:45 am, when teachers are on duty to supervise your child. For your child’s safety, students will not use the playground equipment before school. Please refrain from dropping your child off on 9th Avenue at the main entrance as a daily routine. Students will not be allowed to enter the building through the main door before school. There is a gate that will be open on 9th Avenue for drop off for students. This gate will also be unlocked at 7:45 am. Late students are the only students who should enter through the front doors. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in maintaining a safe and orderly school arrival procedure.
Absences and Tardies
If your child will not be in school, please call the office in the morning. You may reach us at 308-635-6259. The building secretary will contact you by 9:00 am if we are not aware of your child’s absence. If your child is late, please ensure they go directly to the main office so accurate attendance is recorded. Students are considered tardy after 8:20 am. Students that arrive after 9:35 am will be counted absent for the morning. Please make every effort to get your student to school on time to support your child’s learning.
Crossing Guards/Parking Lot
We have adults on duty before and after school to help students cross the street safely and arrive at school safely. Please stress the importance to your child to use the crosswalks and obey all traffic laws. Students should never enter or exit a vehicle in the middle of the street. Also, please refrain from parking or driving through the staff parking lot before or after school.
